Sydney Eisteddfod Strings Project 2025

About the Project

Open to selected participants aged 13–25, this project fosters a side-by-side learning environment, with older players mentoring their younger peers. It is designed to provide an opportunity for Sydney Eisteddfod entrants to actively connect with industry-leading professionals as a meaningful developmental pathway. Beyond refining performance skills, it is also a valuable industry engagement opportunity.

We are privileged to welcome Tahlia Petrosian as artistic leader of this project. A member of the world-renowned Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig and Australian World Orchestra, Tahlia is also the founder and curator of Klassik Underground, a concert series that has featured world-class musicians including Joshua Bell, Leonid Kavakos, Gautier Capuçon, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and Pekka Kuusisto amongst many others. She has built an international career performing with some of the world’s leading artists and ensembles, bringing invaluable expertise and inspirational direction to participants in this project.

Program

  • Handel – Concerto Grosso Op.6 No.3
  • Paterson – Chamber Symphony
  • Tchaikovsky – Serenade for Strings Op.48
  • Bartók – Sonatina Sz.55

Masterclass Opportunity

In addition to the workshops, a masterclass will be offered to four participants who register their interest. Although priority will be given to the most senior participants, we encourage all participants to express their interest to save missing out on this rare opportunity. Acclaimed pianist Jeremy Eskenazi will partner with Tahlia for a recital on Friday 12 December at 1.30pm, followed by a masterclass at 2.30pm and will also be available to rehearse and perform with the masterclass participants at no additional cost. Those selected are welcome to bring their own pianist if preferred (at their own expense).

  • To be considered for one of the four performance places, please express your interest when registering.
  • Attendance at the masterclass as an audience member for Strings Project participants is included in the registration fee.
  • Masterclass participants (4) will be subject to a $95 fee.

Sydney Eisteddfod Home

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which our work and events take place. We celebrate and applaud the long, rich history of storytelling in song, dance, and voice. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging. We contribute to this continuity – developing and sharing our combined cultural journey through our activities on these lands where sovereignty was never ceded.
