Adjudicator
Ms Sophie McKie
At just 16, Sophie completed her HSC dance units and went on to study full-time. In 2017, she was awarded a scholarship from West Coast Dance Explosion after training extensively across leading Sydney studios.
She holds a Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management and was appointed by Australian School Dance to teach in primary and high schools throughout the Hunter region. In 2010, she expanded her training in the United States, where she connected with international choreographers and educators, further fuelling her passion for dance education.
Sophie’s career includes choreography and performance work in musical theatre, music videos, and international television commercials. She has choreographed events for Newcastle City Council, served as Creative Director for the “Diamond Dancers,” and worked alongside national and international artists. Her choreography has earned numerous awards, and she is frequently invited to guest teach and sit on audition panels nationwide.
In 2017, she completed a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and became an assessor for the Australian Dance Institute. She has contributed to syllabus development for Australian Dance Vision and travelled extensively as an examiner.
Sophie currently teaches at a competition studio, runs First Steps Bridal Lessons, and leads Milibelle—a brand dedicated to promoting inclusion and positivity in dance. She is also the Content Manager for Dance Ed Tips, a US-based company creating teaching resources for dance educators worldwide.
A national and international adjudicator, Sophie is passionate about technical excellence, creative expression, and empowering the next generation. She is excited to share her experience and energy with the dancers at this event.
