Entry Information

Entrants perform two contrasting items - a classical ballet solo, and a contemporary, lyrical or demi-character solo. Time limit up to 3 minutes per solo. All entrants will perform their classical ballet solo first. Once all classical ballet solos are completed, entrants will return for their contemporary item, performing in the same order. This will allow for costume changes between items.

Christian trained at the National School of Choreography in Sofia, commencing his professional career at age 16, and achieving the rank of Principal Artist at 21. He joined Queensland Ballet in 2008 after participating in the Company’s International Ballet Gala that year. His prior engagements include positions with the Bulgarian contemporary dance company Ballet Arabesque, Sofia National Opera and Ballet, the Performing Arts Council of Transvaal (PACT Ballet), and the South African Ballet Theatre, where he also held a role as a Coach and Repetiteur. Christian has represented the above-mentioned companies in various prestigious galas and dance events. His repertoire includes principal roles in the major classical repertoire as well as in numerous works by celebrated choreographers of modern times. He retired from the stage in 2011 and was appointed the Company’s Ballet Master. He took up the position of Director of Training in 2013 and was instrumental in the development of Queensland Ballets’ new training programs alongside Artistic Director Li Cunxin AO. In 2016, Christian was named Director of Queensland Ballet Academy.

Important Notes

No pointe work allowed.

Entrants are encouraged to vary repertoire when performing in multiple events in order to develop their expressive and technical capabilities. However, there are no restrictions on the number of times that repertoire can be repeated across multiple events, including Principal events.

Note: Music is to be uploaded to the Sydney Eisteddfod Entrant Portal no later than two weeks prior to the event. Files should be in MP3 format.

Conditions

Adjudicator reports will have comments only (no marks) for this Championship. If insufficient entries in either Events 449 or 456 these will combine. Please refer to the Dance Rules & Conditions of Entry. Your entry is accepted under these conditions.

Prizes

Winner: Medal 2nd: Medal 3rd: Medal Dr Jennifer Lees and Alistair Lees were stalwart supporters of Sydney Eisteddfod during their lifetime, Jennie as our Media Liaison & Public Information Officer, volunteer and archivist, obtaining her doctorate in 2004 with a thesis which was later published as The Sydney Eisteddfod Story:1930-1941. Alistair donated countless volunteer hours across many roles at Sydney Eisteddfod till 2020. Although sadly missed, their legacy lives on at Sydney Eisteddfod through The Wee Lees Trust Fund set up through their generous bequest.
