Mr Joshua Batty
Joshua Batty is a highly accomplished flutist, known for his exceptional talent and international career. He joined the Sydney Symphony as solo flute in 2019 at just 27, after two years with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra in Ireland. A graduate and now Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, Batty studied with Michael Cox on a full scholarship supported by Sir Elton John and further honed his skills at HEMGE in Switzerland with Jacques Zoon. Throughout his career, he has performed with over 30 leading orchestras worldwide, working with top conductors and soloists.
Batty’s solo career has seen him perform at prestigious venues such as Buckingham Palace, Sydney Opera House, and the National Concert Hall in Dublin, earning critical acclaim. He is dedicated to expanding the flute repertoire, commissioning new works from composers like Sir Stephen Hough and Nigel Westlake.
In addition to his performance career, Batty is actively involved in recording for major films, games, and series, including Disney, Netflix, and Marvel. Passionate about teaching, he began his academic career at 23 as teacher at RNCM and continues to inspire students through masterclasses worldwide.
In 2025, Batty will focus on his solo and chamber music career while giving masterclasses and recitals across Australia, Asia, Europe and the US. He plays an Arista flute and is managed by Emblem Artists, Australia

At the discretion of Sydney Eisteddfod Management, selected place-getters aged 13-15 years may qualify for Event 220: Sydney Eisteddfod Alf & Pearl Pollard Memorial Instrumental Awards for Performance Excellence (13-15 Years). If insufficient entries in either Events 274 or 275 these will combine. Please refer to the Instrumental Category Rules & Conditions of Entry. Your entry is accepted under these conditions.
