Own choice of one or more items. This event is open to viola, double bass, classical guitar, harp and other stringed instruments. Exclusions: Violin & Cello Total performance time of up to 8 minutes, which includes time taken between items.

Dr Nicholas Ng is composer/performer and Associate Lecturer at Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He is a former Lecturer at the Australian National University and Research Fellow at Queensland Conservatorium, and the Institute for Australian and Chinese Arts and Culture.
Nicholas' upbringing in Old Rite (Tridentine) church music combined with his world music interests has led to a unique style in his compositions for The Song Company, The Australian Voices, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and other ensembles. He collaborates with William Yang and has toured with Benjamin Law in Annette Shun Wah's Double Delicious (2020-), produced by Contemporary Asian Australian Performance.
On erhu, Nicholas has performed at festivals around Australia, New Zealand, North America, Canada and Europe. These include KunstenFESTIVALdesarts (Brussels), Sydney Festival and Auckland Arts Festival. He established the ANU Chinese Classical Music Ensemble (2003).
Nicholas has curated a number of events including ENCOUNTERS: China (2010), Music in the Gardens (2012), BrisAsia Festival (2012-2013) and Shanghai Club at The Famous Spiegeltent (2013).
Published by Orpheus Music, Nicholas has produced a book and various articles on Australia-China exchange. His career has been documented on SBS Mandarin Radio, ABC Music Show, and in the Compass program Divine Rhythms (ABC TV and iView).

At the discretion of Sydney Eisteddfod Management, selected place-getters aged 12-15 years may qualify for Event 220: Sydney Eisteddfod Alf & Pearl Pollard Memorial Instrumental Awards for Performance Excellence (13-15 Years). If insufficient entries in either Events 253 or 256 these will combine. Please refer to the Instrumental Solos & Duos Rules & Conditions of Entry. Your entry is accepted under these conditions.
