Entry Information

Own choice of a varied program. Repertoire can consist of arrangements . All music should be between Grades 3-4 AMEB or equivalent. Groups who present repertoire above Grade 4 AMEB or equivalent, may be eligible for 'comments only' - and not in contention for a placing or prize.

Total performance time of up to 15 minutes, which includes time taken between items.

Conductor and educator Monica Buckland originally trained in Switzerland, and has gone on to enjoy a wide-ranging and award-winning career, working with professional and amateur orchestras and choirs orchestras, ballet, and even a rock group. She is currently Musical Director of the Balmain Sinfonia and Bel a cappella. She has also conducted the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Orange Symphony Orchestra, and the Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra. 

With a long involvement in higher education, she has taught at Cambridge, Durham and Dresden, and was the first woman to head a conservatoire in Switzerland.  She holds an honorary position at UNSW.

Important Notes

A copy of complete scores, in order of performance, with bars numbered, must be provided. Specific genre items (e.g. Romantic, Classical) and Grades must also be identified on scores.

Copies of music must be uploaded to the Sydney Eisteddfod Entrant Portal no later than two weeks prior to the event (see item 3, in the Instrumental Rules & Conditions of Entry).

Conditions

A minimum of 20 instrumentalists is required (Please note Sydney Eisteddfod can provide a maximum of 60 orchestral chairs and only 50 music stands).

The orchestra must include strings and at least one other group of the orchestral family (i.e. woodwind/brass/percussion). The make up of the orchestra may vary with each item to coincide with the score.

Original scoring must be adhered to. An electric piano (synthesizer) can be used in lieu of a harp, harpsichord or organ. Acoustic substitutes (e.g. clarinet for oboe) may be made in lieu of the original.
