Entry Information

Heats:
One song of own choice. Total performance time of up to 4 minutes.

Up to 5 Finalists and two Reserve Finalists will be chosen from the heats.

For solo voice only. No backing vocals are permitted. Accompaniment can be with either:
(a) Piano and/or guitar accompaniment
(b) Self-accompaniment
(c) OR with recorded backing track

Finalists prepare 2 contrasting works with a total performance time of up to 10 minutes (Including time taken between works).

Both pieces will be accompanied by the Sydney Eisteddfod House Band (Drums, Piano, Bass & Guitar).

No backing tracks, private accompanists or self-accompaniment allowed.

Sheet Music:
It is up to each performer to provide clear, readable charts for each member of the band.

In addition, the band asks that a recording be provided to determine the style of the performance.

All sheet music and guide tracks need to be submitted to Sydney Eisteddfod by July 31 at the latest. Failure to submit music by this time may result in you being unable to participate in the event.

Adjudication will be based on originality of style, delivery, vocal ability, stagecraft and overall presentation, which includes audience communication (linking dialogue).

Melanie Noble

Melanie Noble-Murray has 35 years experience in the Performing Arts and has been performing since the age of 9 in stage performances, television and film. A singer, dancer and actor, Melanie’s credits include Australia’s Wonderland, Norwegian Star Cruise Lines for Grayboy Entertainment, Kaos Comedy Restaurant, Special Mo Award Appearance, Magic Days Performance in Disneyland, International Soccer & Olympic Torch Relay Ceremonies and World Cup Soccer. Recently, Melanie was cast as a lead alongside her daughter for Amazon TV Commercial that was filmed in South Africa for Ridley Scott Films . She was also cast in Reb Wilson’s new Musical Movie “ The Deb” set for release in 2025 alongside 50 of Australia’s most accomplished dancers. Melanie’s Corporate events include AMP Breakfast, Hills Business Awards, M7 10th Anniversary, Hastings Electrical, HIA Awards, Fountain of Hope & Parramatta Eels Functions working with Julie Anthony, Kamahl, Anthony Warlow and Jane Scali. Her television and commercial credits include murder call, Home and Away, Vidal Sassoon (Japan), Coca Cola and 24 hour Tab. Melanie worked in Tokyo Japan as a lead singer in a Jazz Trio working at the Tokyo Hilton & is part of the Noble Sisters Vocal Duo Cabaret Show that tours the NSW Club circuit. Melanie is an accredited Singing teacher with Music Teachers Association of NSW (MTA), the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS) and successfully teaches the Australian Musicians Examination Board (AMEB) Muscial Theatre and Contemporary Singing Exam syllabus and Rockschool Syllabus. She is a registered member of Ballet Australasia (BAL), Australian Dance Association (ADA) formerly FATD. Melanie is in great demand as an adjudicator and is a regular judge since 2001 for various competitions including Showcase National Dance Championships, Hollywood Bound, Campbelltown Spring, Wollongong Song and Dance,St George Eisteddfod, Curtain Call & Mounties Got talent. Melanie and her sister Keira created Performing Arts Studio called KIDZ IN THE BIZ located in the Hills District, was highly awarded for over a decade and students had great successes in TV, Film and Musicals as well as producing several club shows and entertainment for Make a Wish Foundation, Disneyland, Life Line, Kids of Macarthur, Sydney Royal Easter Show to name a few. Many of Melanie’s students have been part of many professional productions including Oliver, South Pacific, Wizard of Oz, Lion King and Opera Australia's Carmen, Turandot, A Mid Summers Nights Dream, Carmina Burana, Billy Budd, Magic Flute, La Boheme, Billy Elliott, Miss Saigon, Wicked, Opera Australia's Tosca, Hi5, Six, Joseph and the Amazing Color Dreamcoat, Elvis, Moulin Rouge, Handa’s Opera West Side Story, Hamilton and & Juliet.

Important Notes

Entrants can repeat songs once that have been performed in other events (Please refer to Item 4 under the Contemporary Singing Category Rules & Conditions).

Adjudicators' reports will be written for the preliminary heats only. No marks will be given on these reports.

Please note: You do NOT need to perform the same song in the Finals that you performed in the Heats. You can if you would like to, but it is not mandatory.

3. The winner and finalists must be reasonably available for media interviews and performance engagements. Sydney Eisteddfod will endeavour to continue to provide performance opportunities to alumni as a way of staying connected and nurturing the creative practices of all.
4. Finalists: Approved band charts for the item/s to be performed with the band must be supplied for each individual musician - bass, drums, guitar and piano.

Please seek prior approval from Sydney Eisteddfod by sending an email at least one month prior, giving all relevant details so that our Musical Director can approve before proceeding with purchases from other arrangers except those listed above.

All band charts must be approved by our Musical Director before performance.
