Brendan Collins

Brendan Collins is the AMEB Chief Brass Examiner, NSW and the Composer-in-residence at Barker College. For 11 years he was the Associate Principal Trombonist with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.

Collins grew up in Newcastle and studied trombone and composition at the Sydney Conservatorium with Ron Prussing and George Golla. He won a scholarship to study in Los Angeles with Ralph Sauer, principal trombone of the L.A. Philharmonic.

He is the inaugural winner of the Open Brass Solo section of the Sydney Eisteddfod. He has performed in many parts of the world as a soloist and with the Australian Youth Orchestra.

His compositions are frequently performed throughout the world and his music is broadcast regularly on ABC ClassicFM. His complete works for trumpet have been released on the CD "Great Southerin Land", recorded in the USA by soloist Phillip Chase Hawkins on the Navona Label. Other performers to record Collins' works include Clement Sanier (France), Jose Chafer (Spain), Alex Wilson, Richard Stoelzel, Rex Richardson (USA) Jeanell Carigan, Matthew Van Emmerik (Australia) and George Curran (Principal Bass Trombone with the NY Philarmonic). He is published by Wirripang (AUS), Hickman Music Editions (US), Northeastern Music Publications (US) and Reedmusic.com (AUS).
