Entry Information

10-30 dancers performing classical ballet or demi-character.

Time limit up to 5 minutes.

Area of Specialty:
Theatrical dance styles- jazz, tap, ,musical theatre/broadway. Also competent in adjudicating in lyrical/contemporary, hip hop, classical ballet and demi/national character and voice.

Renee's career in dance, rooted in her early training in Melbourne's West and further developed at Deakin University, has evolved into a strong advocacy for child safeguarding and regulation in the Australian dance industry. As a board member of the Dance Arts Alliance, she champions these causes, leveraging her experience from London, where she not only performed but also led a successful arts faculty. As director of Dance Edge and Canberra Festival Ballet School, and founder of the Canberra Dance Collective, Renee has implemented child-focused initiatives and programs with an emphasis on creating safe, regulated environments for young dancers.

Important Notes

Note: Music is to be uploaded to the Sydney Eisteddfod Entrant Portal no later than two weeks prior to the event. Files should be in MP3 format. Please refer to Item 15 of the Dance Rules & Conditions of Entry.

Applicants will be prompted to complete additional information, via the Sydney Eisteddfod Entrant Portal, in the lead up to their event:

* Entrant lists with the first and last names of all dancers and their date of birth.
* Number of performers
* Names of helpers and teachers who will require venue back of house access

Helpers need to remain with the group at all times, including, going with them to warm-up areas (if such spaces are available), settling the group prior to taking to the stage, assisting, and supervising the group after their performance.


Conditions

Choreography should aim to actively feature all members of the troupe with appropriate additions of any solos or pas de deux.

At the discretion of the Adjudicator(s) and Sydney Eisteddfod Management, the first place-getter may be invited to perform in Event 500: Sydney Eisteddfod Dance of Champions at the Concert Hall, The Concourse on Sunday, 8 September 2024.

If insufficient entries in either Events 501 or 508 these will combine.

Dr Jennifer Lees and Alistair Lees were stalwart supporters of Sydney Eisteddfod during their lifetime, Jennie as our Media Liaison & Public Information Officer, volunteer and archivist, obtaining her doctorate in 2004 with a thesis which was later published as The Sydney Eisteddfod Story:1930-1941. Alistair donated countless volunteer hours across many roles at Sydney Eisteddfod till 2020. Although sadly missed, their legacy lives on at Sydney Eisteddfod through The Wee Lees Trust Fund set up through their generous bequest.
