On 8 September 2018, Blue Mountains-based Vocal Ensemble Vocalocity competed in the National Finals of the prestigious Australian A Cappella Awards (AUSACA) in Melbourne. The 8 young singers aged between 10-17 years were awarded Third Place in the School Band Division and were one of only two school-aged groups from NSW to be offered a place on stage. Moreover, Vocalocity broke new ground by having the youngest competitor to date performing at AUSACA. Raising the funds needed to cover costs with the support of family certainly paid off with this fantastic news!
Vocalocity performed as a Finalist in both The Sydney Eisteddfod Australasian Open Choral Championship and The John Lamble Australasian Championship for Youth Choirs (19 & Under) for 2018, and are known to take on various performance opportunities beyond the studio. In this instance, the singing troupe proved that a cappella singing is not only fun, but promotes "Individuality. Creativity. Passion." - the motto that Vocalocity lives and breathes through their lively and entertaining performance, which included songs from The Beatles, Johnny Cash and Havana.
Passionate about the positive benefits that group singing has on young people, Vocalocity's director Amelia Nell selects songs that reflect the group's strengths and vocal individuality as solo performers also collaborating as part of a group. Sydney Eisteddfod looks forward to hearing what's next on Vocalocity's calendar…
