Sydney Eisteddfod is delighted to announce 2018 adjudicators for The Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship; John Bolton-Wood AM, Amelia Farrugia and Guest Adjudicator Dr Nicholas Milton AM. All three have celebrated careers and are sure to impart a great deal of wisdom on to all performers.
Amelia Farrugia, Sydney Eisteddfod Alumni and Ambassador, will review all audio submissions and the live heats and make a decision as to which of these talented young singers will progress to the Quarter-Finals. Amelia is Australia’s favourite star soprano and has performed Major Principal roles for Opera Australia since 1994 and debuted her own show DIVA! at City Recital Hall in August 2017.
John Bolton-Wood AM, who will join Amelia for the Quarter and Semi-Finals, won his first prize at Sydney Eisteddfod singing a French song in 1967, is a celebrated performer and the winner of five Green Room Awards. He made his UK debut at The Royal Opera House at Covent Garden and returned to Australia in 1973 to appear in the first full-size production at Sydney Opera House.
Amelia and John will be joined by Guest Adjudicator Dr Nicholas Milton AM, Sydney Eisteddfod Alumni and Ambassador, for the Final. Between 1976 and 1983, Nicholas, collected 34 awards on Sydney Eisteddfod stages, 26 in violin competitions and eight for piano before he reached the age of 15. He studied violin at the Sydney Conservatorium and later on a scholarship at Michigan State University. Between 1996 and 2002, he worked with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and became the youngest ever concertmaster of a major Australian Orchestra and has since gained an enviable reputation in Europe.
