Joseph Raso, 2017 Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship Quarter-Finalist
A regular competitor at local and regional talent quests around the Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle areas. Joseph’s list of achievements consists of many awards including; 1st place for Musical Theatre at Sydney Eisteddfod and 1st place at both Star Search Talents Quests at Wetherill Park and Chatswood. At the age of 14 Joseph regularly performed at the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce as a solo performer and as an annual special guest performer at the Cabramatta Russian Nursing home. In 2012, Joseph joined Urban Opera, a Classical Crossover quartet. The group performed at various festivals, private and corporate events and charity functions for the next four years. Urban Opera has caught the attention of high profiled singers and agents, including one of the Executive Producers of Australia’s Got Talent, Rosemary Schoelfield’s from Australian Global Entertainment and Barry Ball Entertainment from Global Entertainment. In 2016, Urban Opera opened a couple of shows for the Damn Good Divas tour, starring Monique Montez and Danielle Barnes.
Joseph has sung in a supporting role as Giuseppe in Verdi’s La Traviatta for Opera Projects at the Independent Theatre in North Sydney and in the Chorus for Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. In 2017 he was invited to the Parliament House in Canberra to perform at a Urological Conference where he performed as part of an “undercover opera” show. Joseph’s qualifications include both an AmusA in Classsical singing and a Bachelor of Music from UNSW.
