Jessie Wilson, 2017 Sydney Eisteddfod Quarter-Finalist
Jessie Mackenzie Wilson completed a Master of Music Studies in Opera Performance from The Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2016 under the tuition of Dr Rowena Cowley.
Roles performed include Fiordiligi (Mozart, Cosi fan tutte), Suor Dolcina (Puccini, Suor Angelica), Suor Genovieffa (Puccini, Suor Angelica), Street singer (Bernstein, Mass), Miss Beswick (Williamson, English Eccentrics), First Nun (Williamson, English Eccentrics) and Susanna (Mozart, Le nozze di Figaro - Cover). In 2017 she performed the title role in Opera New England’s production of Floyd’s Susannah under the direction of George Torbay. She has also recently finished a season of chorus work in Opera Australia’s Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour (HOSH) production of Carmen.
In 2015 Jessie was awarded The Hilda Mulligan M.B.E. Singing Scholarship for Operatic Soprano at The Sydney Conservatorium and in early 2016 she was the recipient of The Patricia Lucas Music Achievement Scholarship. Jessie has competed as a semi finalist in the prestigious Bel Canto Award, performed for The Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Foundation in concert, competed as a Finalist in the Sydney Eisteddfod’s Opera Award and was broadcast as an Emerging Australian Young Artist on Fine Music 2MBSFM 102.5.
