Christopher Curcuruto, 2017 Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship Quarter-Finalist
Christopher Curcuruto, bass-baritone, is a graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). Since returning to Sydney in 2015, Christopher has continued his training under Dr Rowena Cowley. Christopher was an Associate Artist with Pacific Opera in 2015 performing the role of Harasta in their production of Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen under Alex Briger AO, and has continued as a Young Artist in 2016 and 2017. Christopher is also a member of the Opera Australia Extra Chorus.
During his time at WAAPA, Christopher performed the roles of Gideon March and Mr Dashwood in Little Women by Mark Adamo, Peter (Father) in Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel (under Alex Ingram) and also sang the bass solo in Durufle’s Requiem conducted by Brett Weymark.
Christopher’s other role credits include: Kecal in The Bartered Bride (Rockdale Opera Company); Mars in Orpheus in the Underworld (Rockdale Opera Company); Alessio in La Sonnambula (Operantics); Marquis D’Obigny in La Traviata (Opera New England); Carmen (Opera New England). Concert performances include: bass soloist in Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, conducted by Dr Nicholas Milton (Willoughby Symphony Orchestra); bass soloist in Handel’s Messiah (Artes Christi); ensemble in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice (Spectrum Now Festival – Sydney).
