Alumni Nae Kojima won first place in the New Zealand-based Alana Haines Australasian Awards performing alongside dancers from around Australia and New Zealand from April 14 to 17 in Wellington.
Sydney Eisteddfod extends a huge congratulations to Nae, Cameron Holmes, Hyo Shimizu and Honey Black for their wins at the AHA Awards. Open to Australasian dancers aged 11 to 18 years, the annual awards has given out $400,000 to date in cash prizes, training scholarships and travel grants.
Seventeen-year-old Nae Kojima, from the Amanda Bollinger Dance Academy in Queensland, won the Senior Award (Group B), pocketing a $5,000 prize, and the Audience Choice Award (Group B), worth $250. Nae was a Quarter-Finalist in the Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship last year and will be returning to the same event this year.
Cameron Holmes, 18, took home a $2,000 prize after placing second in the Senior Awards (group B). The Strathfield South dancer trains at the Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy. He competed in six Sydney Eisteddfod events last year, placing third in the Classical Ballet (17 years) and will be taking part in six events again this year.
Waitara dancer Hyo Shimizu, 14, took home a $250 voucher as the Audience Choice Award winner (Group A). He competed in six Sydney Eisteddfod events in 2016, winning the Wenkart Foundation Ballet Championship (13 years) and the Contemporary Dance (13 years) events. He has entered seven events in this year’s Sydney Eisteddfod.
Thirteen-year-old Honey Black, from East Woonona, won a $1,000 prize as she placed second in the Junior section. She participated in eight events in last year’s Sydney Eisteddfod, placing second in the Classical Ballet (12 years) and will return to the stage in five events this year.
