Press release: Twelve Finalists announced for Sydney Eisteddfod Singer of the Year Finals

6  September 2017

Twelve outstanding young singers from the Senior (16 – 25 years) and Junior (12 – 15 Years) categories have been selected to progress to the Sydney Eisteddfod Singer of the Year Finals on Tuesday 12 September. Finalists will have the opportunity to perform in a cabaret style atmosphere at Petersham RSL Club in the hope of securing their part of the $9,700 on offer.

The 2017 Sydney Eisteddfod Junior Singer of the Year Finalists are:

Bella Thomas (Mortdale)
Kristian Babian (Roseville Chase)
Justin Chen (St Ives)
Saphia Tamalemai (Auburn)
Tilli McMahon (Seaforth)
Celina Sharma (Mosman)

The 2017 Sydney Eisteddfod Senior Singer of the Year Finalists are:

Alexander Young (Clontarf)
Jack Watson (Gold Coast, QLD)
Georgia Burley (Cherrybrook)
Teagan Denham (Kirrawee)
Michelle Mutyora (Wiley Park)
Chelsea Warner (Castle Hill)

Judges Margi de Feranti, Luke Joslin and Bev Kennedy were impressed by the high quality of singing presented during the heats and semi-final rounds, and will now have the near impossible task of selecting one winner from each age group.

This event would not be possible without the generous support provided by the event partner, Petersham RSL Club and Sydney Eisteddfod is incredibly grateful for their contribution over the last 27 years. Since 1990 more than 18,000 singers have thrived on stage in what is the biggest night of contemporary singing in the Sydney Eisteddfod calendar.

The Sydney Eisteddfod Singer of the Year Finals will be held at Petersham RSL Club on Tuesday 12 September 2017 at 6:30pm.
