Press release: Seven finalists announced for Australian Choral Grand Prix

14 August 2017

Seven outstanding choirs have been selected to perform in the Australian Choral Grand Prix, presented by Sydney Eisteddfod and Rotary Club of Sydney Cove on Sunday 20 August.

Hosted by entertainment reporter and Sydney Eisteddfod ambassador Angela Bishop, finalists will have the opportunity to perform in the hope of securing their part of the $20,000 on offer.

Audience members will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite performance in the People's Choice Awards, whilst adjudicators Francis Greep and Noel Cislowski will determine the Jury Vote prizes.

The 2017 Australian Choral Grand Prix Finalists are:

Endeavour Harmony Chorus (Jannali)
Urban Voices (Epping)
Sydney Vocal Project (Ryde)
Brigidine College Alumni Choir (St Ives)
Meriden Senior Singers (Strathfield)
Wenona Vocal Ensemble (North Sydney)
Fort Street High School Chamber Choir (Petersham)

Choirs first competed in various choral events in the 2017 Sydney Eisteddfod and those that secured 1st, 2nd or 3rd place proceeded to The John Lamble Australasian Choral Championships. Place-getters from the Choral Championships we considered, and a certain number were then selected to perform in this Grand Prix.

The events $20,000 total prize value would not be possible without the generous support provided by sponsors The Haggarty Foundation, The Cameron Family, Sydney Eisteddfod Jubilee Fund and Rotary Club of Sydney Cove, and Sydndey Eisteddfod is incredibly grateful for their contribution.

Australian Choral Grand Prix will be held at Sydney Grammar School, John Vallance Hall on Sunday 20 August 2017 at 2:30pm. Tickets from $44.
