Luke Byrne


Luke Byrne has composed many choral works, and recent commissions include Storm Bird and Buruwan Elegy for the Gondwana Indigenous Children’s Choir and Desert Sea for Sydney Philharmonia. In 2016 Luke composed Three Pieces for New England for ‘New England Sings’ Combined Primary Choirs, and is an Eisteddfod adjudicator for the New England Conservatorium.

Luke was Pymble Ladies’ College Composer-in-Residence for 2015-2016 and has previously been a resident composer for Sydney Children’s Choir, MLC School and Moorambilla Festival. Luke has been commissioned to compose for schools including International Grammar School and Abbotsleigh, and he also arranged the national anthems for the 2015 Netball World Cup. 

Luke has worked with many choirs as conductor and pianist: in 2015 he was the conductor of the inaugural River Arts Festival Children’s Choir, in 2016 he conducted workshops and performances in ‘New England Sings’, and is currently Director of Choirs at Santa Sabina College.

Luke also works as a performer and musical director in theatre. His credits include Hamlet and The Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie for Belvoir St, and in 2016 Luke was the musical director for The Events for Sydney Festival, Belvoir and Malthouse Theatre. Luke was recently the musical director for Big Fish at Hayes Theatre Co..
