In the year since winning The Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship, Lania Atkins has been living and studying in Amsterdam, giving her the opportunity to live overseas and pursue her biggest dance dreams.
Following this, Lania has also been one of five dancers who represented her school in the Assemblee Internationale 2017 in Toronto, Canada. Participating in a weeklong festival of intensive classes, performances and forums, along with 21 other schools from around the world.
“It was an amazing experience, we got to work with incredible teachers and choreographers. It was a very rewarding experience and we got to meet so many dancers and teachers from other schools” Lania said.
Continuing to take part in trainee programs like these has provided Lania with a lot of practical experience and invaluable lessons on becoming a professional dancer, taking her next step towards a placement in a professional company.
Undertaking study at The Dutch National Ballet Academy since August 2016, under the tutelage of Artistic Director Jean-Yves Esquerre, Lania revealed, “since arriving in Amsterdam I have had the opportunity to perform with Het National Ballet in their production of La Bayadere, in the D’Jampe. It was so exciting and nerve racking at the same time.”
Sydney Eisteddfod is incredibly proud of Lania’s achievements since moving to Amsterdam and cannot wait to hear more updates in the future.
