Joshua Zhi claims top honours in Pollard Memorial Instrumental Awards

Sydney Eisteddfod extends sincere congratulations to pianist Joshua Zhi on winning The Sydney Eisteddfod Alf & Pearl Pollard Memorial Instrumental Awards for Performance Excellence 2018.

The most promising instrumentalists between the ages of 11 and 15 were invited to partake in this prestigious event after achieving the highest marks in their various age-appropriate events across the piano and instrumental solo categories.

This exciting event is unique and unlike other Sydney Eisteddfod events as there is no panel of judges, all prizes are selected purely by audience vote. This requires finalists to determine the best way to enthrall the audience with their skill whilst appealing to their collective musical tastes.

11-year-old Joshua captivated audience members with his engaging rendition of Paderewski's Nocturne Op.16 No.4 in B flat major and Weber's Perpetual Mobile Op.24.

Following closely behind, 13-year-old violinist Sean Weatherley was awarded second place for his performance of Wieniawski's Polonaise De Concert Op.4.

12-year-old Hayley Lau  took out third place on the Viola with her rendition of Sonata in A Major, 4th movement by Franck.

Sydney Eisteddfod would like to thank Lane Cove Council, Lane Cove Music Club and The Pollard Family and Friends for their support and interest in this inspiring event.
