Sydney soprano Jane Ede has been a performer with Opera Australia for seventeen years, principal roles include: Pamina in The Magic Flute, Musetta in La Boheme, Countess in Nozze di Figaro, Adina in L’Elisir d’amore, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Alice Ford in Falstaff, Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Lady Billows in Albert Herring, Cio-Cio-San in Madame Butter y (for the Ozopera tour) and most recently,Wellgunde inThe Ring Cycle.
Roles for other companies include all the soprano roles in The Flight of Les Darcy with MusicTheatre Sydney and the world premiere of Robert J Bradshaw’s chamber opera Gabriel for the International Trumpet Guild conference. Jane has also performed numerous recitals, oratorios and music theatre, including Handel’s Messiah, Canteloube’s Chants D’Auvergne,Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate and Laudate Dominum, Vaughan William’s Dona Nobis Pacem and Faure’s Requiem. She features on the CD recording A Poet’s Composer published by Wirripang.
After completing a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Music/Acting) at Wollongong University, Jane graduated with a Diploma of Opera from the Sydney Conservatorium and was recently awarded an MBA from the Australian Institute of Business (Adelaide).
Jane was twice a finalist in the Sydney Eisteddfod (McDonald’s) Operatic Aria, as well as a finalist in the Opera Foundation’s New York Study Award, Covent Garden Scholarship and the Metropolitan Opera Award. In 2009 she won the inaugural Moffatt Oxenbould Young Artist Competition to join the Opera AustraliaYoung Artist program.
