16-year-old Jack Watson recently spoke to Sydney Eisteddfod about why he loves singing and who encouraged him to start taking lessons. He also revealed why he chose to perform This is the Moment in the 2017 Final of The Sydney Eisteddfod Senior Singer of the Year and offers advice for those thinking about entering events in the future.
What inspired your passion for singing?
I've always had a passion for music for as long as I can remember, and seeing the joy that it brings to peoples lives makes me happy.
Who inspired you to start singing?
My family and Friends encouraged me to start singing after seeing how much I loved music, and my inspiration comes from Bruno Mars, Frankie Valli, Frank Sinatra just to name a few.
You chose to perform "This Is The Moment" in the Sydney Eisteddfod Singer of the Year Final, tell us a little bit about this piece.
I have chosen This Is The Moment to sing in the final because I believe that this song tells me that this is my moment to shine. (Hopefully).
Which other performers do you most like to watch, and why?
Some of my favourite performers that I love to listen to and watch are Ed Sheeren and Frankie Valli, as they are very unique performers compared to a lot of other performer out there that copy each others trends
What is the best piece of performance advice you've ever heard?
Stay humble, work hard and be yourself, but enjoy every moment.
What have you learnt from your Sydney Eisteddfod experience?
Hard work and dedication can open new doors for you.
What would you say to a young singer that was thinking about entering Sydney Eisteddfod?
Give it a go! you can learn so much more from every experience and performance that you do, and the Sydney Eisteddfod is no exception it has given me an amazing performance experience and the opportunity to meeting new performers and is a very well run family friendly event.
What do you hope to achieve next?
I would love the opportunity to one day study music at a Conservatorium.
