23 May, 2016

Sydney Eisteddfod is assisting 12 individuals and 2 schools by donating a total of $5,950 towards their travel costs to participate in its annual performing arts competition.

Now in its seventh consecutive year, the Sydney Eisteddfod Travel Assistance Fund helps subsidise travel for young people from marginal and regional New South Wales and interstate to give them further performing opportunities and competing experience.

The Travel Fund was established in 2009 by generous donations from The John Lamble Foundation and McDonald's Australia.

On from May to September, the Sydney Eisteddfod Festival will encompass 326 events this year in categories such as classic and contemporary dance, instrumental, classic and contemporary singing, choirs and speech and drama.

Chief Executive Piroozi Desai-Keane OAM said she is honoured to mark Sydney Eisteddfod’s 83rd anniversary in 2016 and the successful continuation of the Travel Fund.

“Sydney Eisteddfod’s mission is to promote the pursuit of excellence, especially amongst young people, with opportunities to perform in public through professional judged competitions,” Ms Desai-Keane said.

“The committee has enormous pleasure in assisting these select applicants by funding their travel costs and we hope they will continue to enjoy the facilities offered by Sydney Eisteddfod.”
