On 13 September 2016, Sydney Eisteddfod presented the Junior and Senior Singer of the Year Finals, an event far more exciting than your typical weekday evening! In a jam-packed two-tier program at Petersham RSL Club, the junior competitors were the first to take to the stage and the seniors made sure to end the show with a bang.
All entrants in each category performed to an extraordinary level, making the judges decision incredibly difficult. However, after much deliberation Omar Rihani was awarded the title of Sydney Eisteddfod Junior Singer of the Year and Molly Stewart was named winner of the Sydney Eisteddfod Senior Singer of the Year.
Omar performed Fly Me to the Moon and Nella Fantasia, which left the audience mesmerized, questioning how someone at just 12 years old can have such a large stage presence and so much control over their voice.
Molly, who won the Junior Singer of the Year back in 2015, raised the bar even higher, performing I'm The Greatest Star from Funny Girl the Musical, Burn from Hamilton the Musical and They Just Keep Moving the Line from Smash (TV Series). Adjudication is based on style, delivery, vocal ability and stagecraft and Molly ticked all the boxes!
2016 marks a twenty-six year partnership between Sydney Eisteddfod and Petersham RSL Club. Sydney Eisteddfod is grateful to the directors, staff & members of Petersham RSL Club for their continued help & support over the years.
Sydney Eisteddfod congratulates all competitors for the hard work they put into their performances, without your continued dedication to the craft, the Singer of the Year Finals would not be such a riveting event!
