Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship Quarter-Finalists Announced

The 2016 Sydney Eisteddfod officially began with a bang! Sunday 22 May 2016 saw one of the first events to take place, the Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship Heats, engage audiences and judges alike.

61 budding classical singers entered in the hope of being selected as one of the vocalists progressing through to the Quarter-Finals. The dedication to the art expressed by performers was evident , with many stating that the standard of the vocals was higher than ever before! The Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship requires entrants to prepare four arias from four different operas, from at least two different musical periods and in at least two languages, a musical feat for any aspiring opera performer.

After much deliberation the judges announced the following entrants as making it through to the Quarter-Final:

Those named will then progress through to the Quarter-Final event on June 11 and once again perform, this time a different aria of their choosing. At the conclusion of the event, 16 Semi-Finalists will be revealed and the Semi-Final will take place the day later on June 12.

The Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship is one of the most prestigious events held throughout the festival and it is hoped that the 2016 event will once again act as a catalyst for the next Australian Opera star.
