Sydney Eisteddfod Joan Sutherland Memorial Scholarships encourage young singers in the pursuit of excellence

Since 1933.

achieve. perform.

The Sydney Eisteddfod Joan Sutherland Memorial Scholarships showcase the talents of aspiring classical singers. The senior event serves as a platform for those aged between 21 and 25 years, while the junior event caters for the 17-to-20 age group.

A highlight of the Sydney Eisteddfod festival, these scholarships bowed into the program in 1979.  Since then, many recipients have progressed into successful operatic careers, bass baritone Daniel Sumegi and mezzos Catherine Carby and Dominica Matthews among them.  Joshua Oxley, who won the 2013 junior scholarship is studying in Italy and Jade Moffat who claimed the senior award has never looked back.  In the wake of her victory, the 23-year-old Queenslander not only secured a place in the final of the Sydney Eisteddfod McDonald’s Aria, but also added the prestigious Marianne Mathy Award to her laurels.

All serious opera lovers delight in the discovery of new talent and on 27 July, Sydney Eisteddfod will present the final rounds of both scholarships in a two-tier program with refreshments in between. Book your tickets at www.sydneyeisteddfod.com.au.
