In the lead-up to the Christmas season, organisers of Burwood’s Christmas festivities told Sydney Eisteddfod they needed a special young soprano to sing at their annual Carols in the Park. Ideally, they wanted a teenager singer with an outstanding operatic voice, so after checking recent results, Sydney Eisteddfod asked 18-year-old Katherine Allen if she would be interested in this performance opportunity.

Katherine accepted and delighted the crowd singing O Come All Ye Faithful, Ave Maria and While Shepherds Watch their Flocks. Having featured as a soloist in the Sydney Schools Spectacular for three years in a row, she is no stranger to the stage.  In 2015, she was recipient of a student scholarship with Opera Australia and over the past two years she has won several gold medals on the Sydney Eisteddfod platform in Classical Singing events for the 17- to-20 age group.

Katherine, who recently made the All-round Achievers list in the HSC, hopes to continue her vocal and opera studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music this year.
