Thirteen-year-old Molly Stewart of Woonona is busily preparing to compete against five other talented, contemporary vocalists in the final round of the Sydney Eisteddfod Junior Singer of the Year Contest. Introduced into the Sydney Eisteddfod program in 2011, this event carries a total prize purse of $3,500 and is open to singers in the 12-to-15 age group.
Molly is making her second bid for this coveted title. A triple threat performer, she has been dancing since she was four and singing and acting since she was nine. She made her first appearance at Sydney Eisteddfod in 2011 and takes pride in the collection of medals she has won on its stages.
Now in Year 8 at Illawarra Grammar School, Molly has featured in many local productions. She appeared in the title role in Annie, as Rumpleteazer in Cats and as Martha in The Secret Garden. She dreams about making her career in musical theatre and this year received an Illawarra Youth Achievement Award for her outstanding contribution to the performing arts.
The final of the Sydney Eisteddfod Junior Singer of the Year will take place at Petersham RSL Club on Tuesday, 9 September at 6.30pm, and the final Sydney Eisteddfod Senior Singer of the Year is included in the evening’s program. Tickets costing $25 (adult) and $20 (concession) can be booked online at www.sydneyeisteddfod.com.au or by phoning (02) 9261-8366.
