After passing through an elimination heat and semi-final round, two delightful songbirds from the Liverpool area, Taylah Albert and Kayla Piscopo, have qualified for the final round of the Sydney Eisteddfod Junior Singer of the Year title.
Having progressed into the final every year since the competition was introduced into the Sydney Eisteddfod program in 2011, Kayla Piscopo of Cecil Hills is no stranger to the event. Kayla, who will celebrate her fifteenth birthday next month, hopes to become a recording artist, and despite her youth, she is already a highly experienced performer. She featured as a backing vocalist for John Burlands Alive in Christ album, performed as a soloist at the Sydney Town Hall Gala fundraiser for the Police Citizens Youth Club and was a prize- winning finalist in 2GB’s Got Talent. Kayla recently sang her way into the battle rounds of Voice Kids, and although she narrowly missed a place in the finals, she greatly enjoyed the experience of broadcasting on television.
Thirteen-year-old Taylah Albert of Prestons is the youngest of the six finalists and has been singing since she was two. She began taking formal lessons three years ago, and under the guidance of her teachers Kim and Des Sampson, she has made tremendous progress. Taylah, who admits ‘she lives and breathes for singing,’ hopes to make a career with her voice. She loves performing before an audience and is working tirelessly to achieve her dream.
The final of the Sydney Eisteddfod Junior Singer of the Year will take place at Petersham RSL Club on Tuesday, 9 September at 6.30pm and the final Sydney Eisteddfod Senior Singer of the Year is included in the evening’s program. Tickets costing $25 (adult) and $20 (concession) cover both sessions and can be booked online at www.sydneyeisteddfod.com.au or by phoning (02) 9261-8366.
