Last year, three choirs from the Inner West qualified for a place in the Australian Choral Grand Prix that Sydney Eisteddfod presented with the Rotary Club of Sydney Cove as part of the its 80th Anniversary celebrations. The PLC Sydney Chamber Choir (Croydon) won the event, while the Fort Street High School Chamber Choir (Petersham) not only finished a proud second, but also collected an additional prize for giving the best performance of an Australian composition.
The event proved so successful that the organisers are repeating this year, and once again Fort Street High School and the Shine Chorus from Canada Bay are all into the final, while the Meriden Senior Singers from Strathfield will be making their debut on its platform. The choirs all qualified by placing first or second in at least one of the three Sydney Eisteddfod John Lamble Foundation Australasian Choral Championships and on this occasion, they are all hoping to win top honours.
Carrying a total prize purse of $28,000, the Australian Choral Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, 24 August at 2.30pm at the magnificent Concourse Concert Hall in Chatswood.
