Formerly known as the Sun Aria, this event has been the jewel in the Sydney Eisteddfod crown ever since it began in 1933. The talent it attracts is always outstanding and over the decades, it has served as a launching pad for some of Australia’s greatest singers, Dame Joan Sutherland among them.
With its rich history and a total prize purse of $57,000, this is the competition every aspiring local opera star dreams of winning. Its name is commands respect in world opera circles. and as it unfailingly attracts finest voices from all over Australia and New Zealand, qualifying for the final is almost a prize in itself.
The final is always a magnificent event, and this year with the acclaimed North Sydney Symphony Orchestra accompanying the singers under the baton of Maestro Steven Hillinger, it is sure to enthral opera lovers of all ages.
