After three gruelling preliminary rounds Sydney Eisteddfod is thrilled to announce the 2016 Finalists of the prestigious Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship.
A total of 160 young male and female ballet dancers from Australia and New Zealand (16-19 years) gave their all in classical and contemporary performances during the heats, Quarter-Finals and Semi-finals while judges Rani Luther and Paul Knobloch had the near impossible task of choosing the best 8 dancers.
Each Finalist will perform a classical and contemporary solo at the Finals, on August 14 at the Sydney Opera House, where the winner will take home $18,000 (total value). A second scholarship in the value of $12,000 will be awarded to the best dancer of the opposite sex of the winner.
Mr Knobloch said that overall the Finalists had “lovely control and musicality”, “great command of stage” and “beautiful technique”, while some showed maturity “way beyond their years”.
The 8 Finalists are:
- Lauren Songberg (Drummoyne)
- Luke Dimattina (Ascot Vale, VIC)
- George Susman (Coogee)
- Lania Atkins (Bronte)
- Tyla Steinbach (Lane Cove)
- Joshua Jack Price (Robina, QLD)
- Natalie Taylor (Mosman)
- Makensie Henson (Reedy Creek, QLD)
