Press release: New classical repertoire for Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship

27 June, 2016

Ballet enthusiast will be able to enjoy more variety during the 2016 Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship heats on July 9 with the addition of new classical variations to the event’s repertoire.

Of course entrants might still choose to present the usual Kitris, Giselles and Sugar Plum Fairies – from Don Quixote, Giselle and Nutcraker respectively – but audience members may be treated to some new performances that have never graced the Sydney Eisteddfod stages.

The 2016 inclusions to the classical ballet variation solo repertoire include Satanella’s Solo from Carnival In Venice, La Esmeralda’s solo from La Esmeralda Act 1 and the Odalisque 3rd variation from Le Corsaire Act 1.

Entrants will also be able to present Odile’s solo from Swan Lake Act 3, which is making a comeback after several years off the list.

These additions to the extensive classical solo repertoire available for entrants will no doubt add to the experience for participants and audience members alike.

Eight Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship finalists will be chosen after the Semi-Finals on July 11.

Finalists will repeat the classical variation and the free contrasting variation presented during the heats at the Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship Final on August 14 at the Sydney Opera House.
