Audience members were treated to a fantastic night of dance at the Sydney Eisteddfod Open Jazz Group Final at the Sydney Opera House on August 14.
Thirteen groups of 10-30 dancers entered the event this year, competing through heats on June 18 at the Science Theatre at UNSW and the Final.
Adjudicators Olivia Ansell and Keith Hawley spoke very highly of the level of talent they saw on the stage, emphasising that “it’s great to see such innovative choreography with such diversity of styles.”
“Thanks to Sydney Eisteddfod for presenting a brilliant showcase every year. This was an incredible night of performing arts talent,” Olivia Ansell said.
Winner: National College Of Dance (Lambton) - $2,500 prize
2nd place: Capital Performance Studios (Hornsby) - $1,500
3rd place: Brent Street (Moore Park) - $1,000
Other finalists were:
- Dubbo Ballet Studio (Dubbo)
- Queensland National Ballet School (Bowen Hills, QLD)
- All Starz Performing Arts Studio (Peakhurst)
- 12 Village on Broadway B (Alexandria)
Dance groups from The Dance Spot, National College of Dance, Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy and the Queensland National Ballet School were guest artists on the night.
