Members of the Fort Street Chamber Choir are celebrating their $10.000 triumph in the Australian Choral Grand Prix that Sydney Eisteddfod presented on 24 August in the Concourse Concert Hall, Chatswood. Conducted by Alex Pringle and accompanied by Chris Carter, the choir gave a magnificent performance and their popular victory was reflected in their success in winning the Audience Vote, along with another $1,000,
Last year, this brilliant 18-voice choir finished in second place to the PLC, Croydon and supplemented their winnings giving the best performance of an Australian Composition.
Fort Street High School occupies an enviable place in Sydney Eisteddfod history. When the festival began on 19 August 1933, Fort Street Girls High School, as it was then known, won the Juvenile Championship for State School Choirs. They repeated this success in 1934 and again1935, and as the only choir to ever accomplish this feat, they have held the record for more than eight decades.
