Opera stars decorated in Queen’s Birthday honours list

Sydney Eisteddfod takes pleasure in congratulating soprano Cheryl Barker and baritone Peter Coleman-Wright who were both named Officers of the Order of Australia (AO) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. The awards acknowledge the couple’s distinguished service to the performing arts, as mentors and as role models through fundraising for educational opportunities for the next generation of opera singers.

Recognised as one most popular couples in the Australian opera scene, Cheryl and Peter are at the moment mentoring Sydney Eisteddfod entrants as adjudicators of the Sydney Eisteddfod Opera & Arts Support Group Vocal Scholarship. This scholarship is a major highlight of the McDonald's Sydney Eisteddfod program and on the eve of the Queens Birthday more than 40 budding opera stars performed in the heats.  The final will take place at the Paddington Uniting Church on the evening of July 10.

Sydney Eisteddfod takes pride in their association with Cheryl Barker AO and Peter Coleman-Wright AO and thanks them both wholeheartedly for encouraging the singers who test and develop their performance skills on its stages.
