Leigh Middenway has led a busy and interesting playing life as a professional violinist in Sydney for over three decades. In 1980, while studying at the NSW Conservatorium, she was a state finalist in the ABC Concerto Competition. During the 80s, she was the violinist and violist for the Seymour Group, which specialized in contemporary classical music. For 16 years, she was a core member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra during which time she toured frequently around Australia, Europe, the UK, Asia, North and South America and New Zealand.

In addition, Leigh has freelanced for many years with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, work for TV and films, music theatre and numerous chamber music projects. One of her special interests is the performance of early music on original instruments. She has performed on baroque violin for Pinchgut Opera, The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and The Orchestra of the Antipodes.

More recently, Leigh has turned her energies to teaching, which she finds extremely fulfilling. Her activities range from teaching very young beginners up to teenagers, to conducting small groups and tutoring violin groups at Sydney Youth Orchestra.
