The 2016 Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship winner Lania Atkins, has officially settled in to life in Amsterdam almost six months since taking out the winning title. Only days after competing on the Sydney Opera House stage, she was off to begin her newest adventure and take her training and love of ballet to the next level.
She recently updated Sydney Eisteddfod on what she has been up to and explained that she still cannot believe she won the Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship after years of being inspired by the dancers before her.
“To win this event meant so much to me. I have dreamt for years of being on the stage in the Final… I have watched the Final since I was 10, admiring all of the dancers, and hoping one day to be just like them. It is the highlight of the Eisteddfod season in Australia. The pinnacle of all events!”
Lania has been undertaking study at The Dutch National Ballet Academy since August 2016, under the tutelage of Artistic Director Jean-Yves Esquerre. She revealed, “since arriving in Amsterdam I have had the opportunity to perform with Het National Ballet in their production of La Bayadere, in the D’Jampe. It was so exciting and nerve racking at the same time.”
Expressing her thanks, Lania explained “[Winning the Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship] has given me the opportunity to perform with one of the best ballet companies and on one of the best stages in the world. For that I will be always grateful.”
Sydney Eisteddfod is incredibly proud of Lania’s achievements since moving to Amsterdam and cannot wait to hear more updates in the future.
