Junior instrumentalists who shine in their other events on the Sydney Eisteddfod stage are invited to participate in the prestigious Sydney Eisteddfod Alf & Pearl Pollard Memorial Awards for Performance Excellence. This year, Cellist John Wu was awarded this high honour.
Unlike any other Sydney Eisteddfod events this significant award is decided purely through audience vote. John presented a beautiful rendition of David Popper's Hungarian Rhapsody, Op. 68 which evidently struck a chord with many audience members.
In the 2016 Sydney Eisteddfod John also won 1st place in the Viola, Cello and Double Bass (12/u) event and 2nd place in the Viola, Cello and Double Bass (19/u) event.
Standout performance also included that of clarinetist Anna Chung who placed 2nd and pianist Joshua Han who placed 3rd.
Audiences were also impressed by performances by all of the other finalists who qualified for the final by achieving the highest marks in various age-appropriate events in the piano and instrumental solo categories at the recent Sydney Eisteddfod.
Sydney Eisteddfod would like to thank Lane Cove Music Club and The Pollard Family and Friends for their support and interest in this inspiring event.
Sydney Eisteddfod congratulates John on this fabulous win and is excited to see him go from strength to strength in the years to come.
