Sydney Eisteddfod congratulates Fort Street High School Chamber Choir on its recent victory in the Australian Choral Grand Prix. Presented by Sydney Eisteddfod in partnership with the Rotary Club of Sydney Cove, this stellar event featured the six choirs that placed first and second in The John Lamble Foundation Australasian Choral Championships in June.
Conducted by Alex Pringle and accompanied by Chris Carter, the Fort Street choristers gave a brilliant performance and received lavish praise from adjudicators Dr Ronald Smart PSM, Dr Debra Shearer-Dirie and Brett Weymark. Singing Rosan Pandan by George Hernandez, The Moran’s Bark by Australian composer Ben Van Tiernen and The Pentatonix’ Run With You, the choir won the $10,000 first prize and further confirmed their excellence by claiming the $1,000 People’s Choice Award.
The Sydney Conservatorium Chamber Choir, conducted by Dr Neil McEwan also also gave an outstanding performance and won the $5,000 second prize, along with another $1,000 for giving the best performance of an Australian composition.
The Shine Chorus, an exquisitely voiced Korean community choir from Canada Bay, finished third and received $3,000. The remaining finalists, the Meriden Senior Singers, the PLC Junior School Chamber Choir and Waitara Voices from Waitara Public School, all performed superbly and were rewarded with $1,000 each.
