Dr Robert McWilliams, an internationally accomplished musician, was born in Melbourne, Australia. A USA resident from 1991 to 2014, he holds a Ph. D. in Music from the University of Minnesota, a Master's in Instrumental Conducting from Florida State University, and a Bachelor's in Music Education from the University of Melbourne. In the USA he was Professor of Music and Director of Bands and Instrumental Music Education at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh from 1996 to 2014 where he held primary responsibility for the University Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band as well as substantial experience with the symphony orchestra and jazz ensembles. He also taught courses in instrumental music education, conducting, and jazz and from 2011 served as Head of Department.
Dr McWilliams has conducted and presented in many states of the USA as well as major music conferences in Japan, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Europe, China, and all states of Australia.
Dr McWilliams has been published in professional publications including the Journal of Band Research, Teaching Music Through Performance in Band and is a published composer/arranger with Alfred's Music. In early 2015 he relocated to Brisbane and is freelancing as a musician, educator, conductor, composer/arranger and working for Yamaha as an Education Outreach Clinician.
