Dr Martin Hardy is a music educator and professional musician from Sydney. As an active trombonist, Martin has worked professionally in a variety of musical genres from small jazz ensembles to symphony orchestras, as a conductor he has worked with many of Australia’s finest ensembles and as a music educator has been employed as a classroom music teacher and a senior education officer by the New South Wales Department of Education and Training. In 1995, Martin’s commitment to teaching music to young people was recognised when he received the Minister’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr Hardy has also been employed as a lecturer at The University of Western Sydney where he lectured Conducting, Instrumental Pedagogy, Instrumental Philosophy and Instrumental Education. In 2011 he wrote a book on instrumental education entitled "Teaching Music from the Podium."
Currently, Dr Hardy is Head Teacher, Creative and Performing Arts at Pittwater High School and is a sought after guest conductor and adjudicator. He regularly adjudicates instrumental festivals, guest conducts orchestral, band and jazz ensembles and provides professional development workshops for both students and teachers.
