The 2014 McDonald’s Sydney Eisteddfod Syllabus includes a 32-event program for contemporary singers of all ages and types.
As this program includes Vocal Performance and Song from Musical/Music Theatre events for every age group from nine years and under to 18 plus, it is open to all. Singer- songwriters, duos, trios and small groups are catered for and there are also senior and junior events for Jazz or Blues Singers, R & B or Gospel Singers and Country Singers.
The two major events are the Senior Singer of The Year for singers aged between 16 and 25 years and the Junior Singer of The Year for those in the12-to-15 age group. Both these events take place in a cabaret atmosphere at Petersham RSL Club.
Competition is vital for anyone who dreams of a performing career and this category provides all those who nurture dreams of becoming pop singers or musical comedy stars with the opportunity to perform in public and receive constructive criticism from accredited adjudicators.
Over the last few years, a large number of junior entrants have stepped from this category into juvenile roles in main stage musical productions. Most recently in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom that is now playing at the Lyric Theatre.
