James Guan won the prestigious Sydney Eisteddfod Allison/ Henderson Piano Scholarship for 2013 playing Six Moments Musicaux. Op16, by Sergei Rachmaninov.
A veteran of Sydney Eisteddfod piano events, James has won many awards on its stages and competed successfully in other competitions. According to adjudicator Glenn Riddle, the standard of playing in this year’s final was excellent, but although neither he nor his colleague Betty Vergara-Pink could fault any of the players, James edged ahead of his rivals and emerged triumphant.
At the time of winning the award, after completing his Bachelor of Music performance degree in late 2013, James planned to audition for a place in a Master’s course in London - Sydney Eisteddfod applauds his efforts and wishes him every success.
