Thousands cheered when 16-year-old Caleb Durbin was named outright winner of the Sydney Eisteddfod McDonald's Ballet Scholarship in the Concert Hall at Sydney Opera House in August 2013. Looking every bit like a classical prince in his dazzling white costume, Caleb wowed his adjudicators and audience alike with his outstanding potential. Victorian Kiely Groenewegen, who won the second scholarship, is already heading for The Royal Ballet School and Sydney Eisteddfod delights in wishing these two talented young dancers every success.
In 2013, the Sydney Eisteddfod McDonald's Ballet Scholarships attracted 174 entrants. The overall standard has never been higher, and according to the adjudicators, the six unplaced finalists and many others can all anticipate successful careers in dance.
