BBC Singer of the World

With great delight, Sydney Eisteddfod reports that two of its favourite sopranos have reached the final of the 2011 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World contest. Bathurst-born mezzo Helen Sherman, who finished runner-up in the Big Mac in 2007, has been chosen to sing for Australia, while 2003 winner Anna Leese will represent New Zealand.  The blossoming divas were selected from a field of 600 who auditioned in 45 cities across the world. To reach the top twenty is, indeed, an honour, and Sydney Eisteddfod wishes them luck as they compete in forthcoming rounds of this prestigious competition.
