Anna Dowsley made her debut as a principal of Opera Australia singing the role of Rosina in Rossini’s masterpiece Barber of Seville on 28 January.

In 2012, Anna began her spectacular rise to the top on the Sydney Eisteddfod platform by winning the Opera and Arts Support Group Vocal Scholarship, the Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Awards, the Special Voice Awards and the English Opera and Art Song.  In the wake of these successes, Anna added victories in the Lady Fairfax Award New York Scholarship and the Mathy Awards to her laurels and spent the following year furthering her studies with renowned teachers overseas.

On return to her homeland, Anna gained a Young Artist position with Opera Australia. With her beautiful voice and engaging stage presence, she excelled in several roles and on completing her tenure became a principal artist.   Proud of her achievements, Sydney Eisteddfod welcomes her to its Galaxy of Stars as she begins her career as a principal artist. In July, she will appear as Dorabella in Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte.
