2012 Sydney Eisteddfod NSW Drs Orchestra instrumental Scholarship winner Andrey Lebedev has found success and inspiration in London working with Julian Bream, Sir Harrison Birtwistle and Leo Brouwer.
Grateful for this unique privilege Andrey said “To work so intimately in the creative process with these artists was the most inspiring and challenging experience of my life.”
“I was exposed to an extraordinary world of musical thought, rooted in the classical tradition of the 20th century and looking far beyond.”
“My views on music and the guitar were radically reshaped over the year, culminating in a London recital of these news works alongside masterpieces of the 18th and 20th centuries.”
Andrey was selected to premiere two new commissions, Beyond the White Hand: Construction with Guitar Player by Birtwistle and Brouwer's Sonata No.5: Ars Combinatoria for the Julian Bream Trust in concert on 4 December 2014.
Andrey will also be performing the world premiere of another work by Leo Brouwer, Rituales y Danzas Festivas, at an event sponsored by the Tillet Trust at Wigmore Hall in May.
