Sydney Eisteddfod congratulates Christchurch soprano Amina Edris on her victory in the Sydney Eisteddfod McDonald’s Aria held at the Sydney Town Hall on Sunday, September 22 2013.  Singing ‘Steal Me Sweet Thief’ from The Old Maid and the Thief by Menotti and ‘Caro nome che il mio cor’ from Rigoletto by Verdi, Amina took top honours ahead of bass baritone James Ioelu of Auckland. According to adjudicators Beverley Bergen and Stuart Maunder, the eight singers who qualified for the final were all worthy of the prize and with both trophies now heading across the Tasman, New Zealand has every reason to be proud of its vocal talent.
