Alexandra Cownie is a former professional dancer turned author and successful entrepreneur. She was classically trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Danse in Lyon, France. She was the French national technical reference (in ballet) for the years 2002 and 2003. In 2002, while still a student, she was invited to dance extracts of Jardi Tancat from Nacho Duato as a guest with the Lyon Opera Ballet.
Alexandra travelled across Europe with the Youth Ballet of Lyon before joining the Tanz Atelier Wien Company in 2004 (Austria). While in Munich, she learned the principles and technique of the Vaganova method at the Heinz Bosl Foundation. As a dancer, she worked with many of today’s greatest choreographers and ballet masters from the Paris Opera Ballet, Béjart Ballet Lausanne, New York City Ballet, etc. Alexandra is the founder of International Ballet Workshops: bi-yearly workshops with world-class guest ballet masters. IBW bring professional opportunities to all advanced dancers attending.
She is the author of ‘How to be a Ballet Dancer’, an information filled book for the teenage dancer. She is sought after today for master class, mindset and classical repertoire teacher throughout Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
